·         Tie-In to Easter promotions

There is little time between St. Patrick’s Day, and Easter this year.  You will have to be nimble to promote to both themes.

Advertisers in your area are going to be in full swing, emphasizing the Easter Holiday.  Your enrollment efforts can be enhanced by piggybacking onto the symbolism and volume of Easter advertising of the merchants in your area.

Everywhere your prospects turn, they are going to be seeing Easter references.  Tasteful displays in your windows, or in flyers will have more impact if they coordinate with the current seasonal marketing theme.

·         Set aside some display space

On top of one of your display cases, or on a table in your entryway, you should have a display area.  That area should feature the seasonal tie-in.  For example, having a “Give Somebunny an exciting Easter” display, gives you the opportunity to use “change” as an attention getter.  Complete the display with a basket, some colored eggs, and maybe even a stuffed bunny!

An in-store display like this should cater to existing clients also.  What is it you can sell them?  Adding a child, equipment, or private lessons?

Should you find it distasteful to market into religious themes, we fully understand.  But don’t always be a salmon swimming upstream.  See if holiday themes such as Forth of July, Thanksgiving, or President’s Day can lend your marketing efforts a boost.

·         Retention Ideas

One of our clients gives out stickers to his younger students.  These stickers are rewards for improvement, great behavior, etc.  He keeps up to six different kinds, and lets the student pick a sheet.  When asked, “Why not just give just one sticker?”  He says; “These cost only 25 cents a sheet.  Certainly 45 minutes of good behavior by a six year old is worth 100 times that!”

Mix up the rewards.  One month offer stickers, the next special pencils, the next small party favors.

·         Meet me on the Mat

What priority do you give teaching?  Frequently, when we are our own bosses, we focus on the enjoyable, rather than the necessary.

If you find yourself skipping dates with your desk, here are some actions you can take to get your business sense back on track:

Come in Early.

Use one or two hours before the first class to prepare contact letters, check attendance, pay bills, etc.  Keep the door locked, and the sign off.

Schedule time for larger projects.

Uninterrupted time will allow you to be more efficient on larger tasks.  This will reduce your stress, and allow you to concentrate more fully.  Schedule tasks of short duration in between classes.  Those might include attendance, phone calls, or corrective & discipline conferences.

Barter training for clean-up and other low-skill tasks.

Free yourself from the time consuming tasks that don’t require your involvement.  Time you use dusting, vacuuming, and window washing can be reclaimed if your trade it off.

Free up More Time.

Train your higher belts to replace you for warm-up and stretching drills.  This can free up as much as 15 minutes of time, and allow you to accomplish other tasks.  It is important that you don’t just abandon this task, but rather that you supervise it as your higher belts work toward meeting your standards.  Make sure your higher belts recognize this as a sign of your trust in them.

Go Home

As gratifying as it is, don’t allow yourself to be engaged in long and lengthy discussions after the last class.  Go home.  If you try to work at the end of the day, you will find yourself too tired, and easily distracted.  Students will try to hang out as long as you are there.  Go home, and get the rest you need for tomorrow.
